Saturday, April 5, saw the last race in the 2014 Gatorade Eton Dorney Duathlon series from votwo with 200 competitors taking part in the Sprint Distance (5km/20km/5km) and Super Sprint Distance (2.5km/10km/2.5km). Many of those in attendance were taking the opportunity to train for upcoming events including the British Championships and London to Brighton Bike Challenge.
Nick Sturge won the Sprint in 1:07:08 with Piers Vallance taking second and Jonathan Hoggett third. Claire Vallance (1:15:48), Louise Croxson and Stephanie Mottram topped the podium in the women’s event. In the Super Sprint Richard Hancock’s 34:22 secured him victory with Stephen Burgess taking second and Dylan Kennedy third. Gemma Marshall won the women’s Super Sprint in 42:29 with Verna Burgess and Sophie Saunders in second and third respectively.
Amongst the masses Ian Lathey, competing in Sprint Distance and finishing in 1:46:18 commented, ‘I have participated in many cycling events over the years, this is my first multidiscipline event… The event for a newcomer was extremely well planned, the marshals and stewards were well briefed and friendly and the atmosphere very accommodating despite the huge variation in abilities of the competitors.’
